Thanks to Doug Pederson’s decision to drop out of the fourth quarter on Sunday night, I didn’t end the season at 0.500, choosing NFL games against the spread.
Yes, I had the Eagles. I know the number increased to about seven when the game started, but when we made our choices last week, it was 1.5. So, I was stuck with a loss.
That means I didn’t finish the regular season with more than 0.500, but I ended up with 123-124-1. Okay, because I’ve been walking a bit, going to 9-5-1 last week.
With regard to the Best Bets on the Pick-Six Podcast, I ended up as the champion of the regular season. I went 4-2 last week to raise my record to 59-41-1. This is something to brag about, especially considering that our entire group had a great season.
Now is the time for the playoffs, a time of year when I usually do my best.
Most recent odds:
Buffalo Bills -6.5
The Colts’ defense declined in the second half of the season, which should be a concern for Josh Allen and Buffalo’s attack. Indianapolis was once the top-ranked defense in the league, but has dropped big in the final six games. Allen, however, continues to light up his defenses and will do the same here. The ideal plan for the Colts is to defeat Jonathan Taylor and keep Allen off the field, but what happens when the Colts fall? Buffalo is rolling, but they will be challenged here early. In the end, Allen will hit with the arm and move on to the next round.
To choose: Bills 30, Colts 20

Most recent odds:
Seattle Seahawks -4
The two shared their games in the regular season, with each winning at home. Seattle won the Rams two weeks ago in a game where Jared Goff injured his thumb. The Rams had a chance in this confrontation, even with Goff injured. Rams’ defense always seems to give Russell Wilson problems – that will be the case here. But Seattle’s defense took his game in style. This will pose major problems for Rams’ attack, no matter who starts as a defender. Seattle will win a low-scoring game.
To choose: Seahawks 20, Rams 18
Most recent odds:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -8
Tampa Bay have been impressive in attack in the last three games, but this defense will present a great challenge. Tom Brady’s problems over the years come against fronts that can put pressure. This group can do that. I think they’ll delay Brady a little. Washington has problems with the attack. Alex Smith was fine last week, and it is rumored to use him and Taylor Heinicke this week. That would be strange. The Tampa Bay defense must be prepared to deal with this offense. I think it’s a low-scoring game with Washington behind the top four.
To choose: Tampa Bay 21, Washington 17
Most recent odds:
Baltimore Ravens -3
The two do not hide what they want to do in the attack, which is hitting football. Baltimore was the fastest team in the league, while the Titans opposed Derrick Henry, the leader of the NFL. Tennessee beat Baltimore earlier this year and also beat him in the playoffs last year in a big turnaround. This time, I think the Ravens have a kind of revenge. Its defense is much better than the bad unit that the Titans put on the field. Lamar Jackson will have a great day to advance the Ravens.
To choose: Ravens 33, Titans 23
Most recent odds:
New Orleans Saints -10
Bears seemed to come alive in the attack in December, but that was against bad teams. They didn’t do much against Green Bay last week, but here they are in the playoffs. Santos has a difficult defense that will be a great challenge for Mitchell Trubisky. The New Orleans attack was not as explosive this year, which is why I think the Bears are going to end up here. It’s not like we haven’t seen Saints blow up a playoff game in this role in the past. This time, they will hold on to win. But it’s close.
To choose: Santos 26, Bears 21
Most recent odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6
The Browns defeated the Steelers last week to reach the playoffs, but it was a Steelers team that rested many players, including Ben Roethlisberger. This will be a much bigger challenge, especially without Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, who is out with COVID-19. The Browns’ plan is still to beat football at the Steelers to control the clock and let Baker Mayfield make moves on the move. But the Steelers defense will respond to that and play well here. Roethlisberger came to life in the second half of his last game against the Colts and I think it will continue against the Browns. The Steelers own the Browns in Pittsburgh and that will continue.
To choose: Steelers 27, Browns 17
