Periodic light snow and sleet during Friday morning and then a cold but drier weekend | Climate

SHORT TERM FORECAST

THIS NIGHT: Cloudy with some periods of light snow or sleet; irregular freezing drizzle. Low: 22

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy and fast with a little snow or persistent gusts until noon. Total additional accumulations of a coating for an inch or two. High: 36

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly to very cloudy with a snow shower or downpour, especially in Poconos. Low: 22

FORECAST SUMMARY

Our last round of winter weather provided a steady round of snow and hail in the first half of Thursday, bringing 5 to 6 inches of snow across much of the area, with quantities of 6 to 9 inches thanks to some more snow streaks heavy Thursday morning to much of Chester and Lower Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania and Mercer and Monmouth in central New Jersey. Although the more constant snow and hail have moved away, we will still have to deal with a few intermittent lighter pockets of snow and hail from time to time during this night and even on Friday morning. Additional build-ups will be an uneven coating of one or two inches for some, but not all, as temperatures remain below freezing and in their 20s until early Friday. Also note if there is a freezing drizzle that can cause a light layer of ice on any surface. The driest weather comes later on Friday, with clear skies on Friday night leading to a partly sunny weekend. Although lighter, it will also remain quite cold during the weekend, with highs only between 30 and 30 years, with a strong breeze adding an extra chill on Saturday. A little light rain and snow is possible early next week on Monday, but little buildup or impact is expected at the moment.

DETAILED FORECAST

THIS NIGHT ON FRIDAY MORNING

Expect plenty of clouds and some intermittent periods of light snow and sleet overnight until Friday morning, with temperatures remaining in the mid and above 20 and any further build-up to be irregular and only about a layer of one or two inches. But given that it is still possible to snow and hail and temperatures will remain below freezing, note if there are any slippery spots on some roads in the area throughout the morning. A little bit of uneven freezing drizzle is possible tonight and overnight, too, which can add a thin layer of icy polish to any surface and aggravate slippery conditions.

LATER FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT

The generally cloudy sky will remain, but the drier weather will prevail and a snowstorm or rain can still last, especially in Poconos, but most of the time it must be dry. The highs will be in the mid 30s on Friday, which should help improve road conditions with some modest melting, although watch out for a new freeze on Friday night, as the lows drop to 20s. The clouds can start to dissipate a little during the night.

THIS WEEKEND

For the first time in the month, an entire weekend in February seems dry with lots of sunshine, but also with very cold temperatures. Expect partly sunny skies on Saturday with a cool, fast breeze and high only around zero, so generally sunny skies with weaker winds on Sunday, but still cold with highs only in the mid-30s. The overnight minimums will be quite cold and will do well in adolescence.

NEXT WEEK

A cold front will bring some clouds on Monday and some light rain and snow, but it is not expected to be much at the moment. Otherwise, expect the highs to reach 40 degrees for the rest of next week, as a less chilly and active weather pattern finally arrives just in time to end February.
