Penn State Football lands transfer Johnny Dixon from South Carolina

Penn State Football got its second transfer portal appointment on Monday

Penn State Football received a commitment from South Carolina defender Johnny Dixon on Monday afternoon.

Dixon announced the change on his Twitter.

Dixon just completed his sophomore season in South Carolina, where he played corner. He recorded 34 tackles, five pass breakups and recovered a fumble this season. He started eight games.

Born in Tampa, Florida, Dixon is listed as 6 feet and 185 pounds on the South Carolina website. According to his biography, he is majoring in advertising.

Penn State needs more depth in its secondary, but most of that was focused on the security position. Penn State has four talented corners that will all be juniors next season, in addition to the fact that Tariq Castro-Fields has not yet decided whether he will become a professional or not. They also brought the 4-star Kalen King corner in the 2021 recruiting class. It is not clear whether Penn State plans to play Dixon safely or possibly take someone else there. If Jaquan Brisker returns, they cannot move anyone to safety.

Penn State recruited Dixon during his recruitment in the 2019 cycle, so there was already an established relationship, making it easier for something like this to happen.

Dixon becomes the second former Penn State recruiting target to be transferred to Lions Nittany this month. Running back John Lovett announced his intentions to move to Penn State last week.

The Lions of Nittany were expected to be aggressive on the transfer portal this season, and so far this has been the case. The team is still targeting defensive ends and an offensive striker, along with possibly another defensive back and perhaps a quarterback.

With the NCAA allowing all transfers to take place immediately in 2021, it is projected to be a period of wild off-season in college football. Penn State seems to be in the middle of madness.
