During her weekly press conference on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi mistakenly referred to Senator Ron Johnson as “Don Johnson”, an actor best known for his role as James “Sonny” Crockett on the television series of the years 1980, Miami Vice.

Pelosi was criticizing the Wisconsin Republican and staunch supporter of former President Trump for “taking the lead” in the Republican Party’s response to the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol, when she was told by reporters that she made the mess.
“Don Johnson, your first name was Don? What is Ron?”, She asked reporters, to whom they replied, “No.”
Pelosi started to laugh as he corrected himself.
“Senator, let me call you. Not ‘Miami Vice’ or anything like that. Don Johnson,” said Pelosi. “Ron Johnson appears to be taking the lead on the scope of how we look to protect our country from domestic terrorism.”

The slip immediately caught the eye of comedian Chris Redd, who co-stars with Don Johnson and his Saturday Night Live castmate Keenan Thompson on the NBC sitcom “Keenan”.

A Twitter user said the move was intentional, calling Pelosi “the queen of shadows”.

Another user agreed that it was a slip of the tongue, but argued that “all of us, Miami Vice’s Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson), were soooo much nicer than any politician”.

Meanwhile, another commentator wrote: “In defense of Pelosi, I prefer to think of Don Johnson as well.”
Pelosi also called Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who called on his proposal to nominate a January 6 commission to examine the riot as “project supporter”.
She argued that McConnell was “taking a page out of Senator Johnson’s book”.

During a congressional hearing on Tuesday, investigating the security breaches that allowed events on Capitol Hill to occur, Johnson claimed that the “vast majority” of protesters “had a” jovial, friendly and sincere attitude “and blamed” militants on the undercover “by violence. provocative agents, fake Trump protesters and column of disciplined uniformed attackers.”
The comments drew criticism from Johnson’s Democratic and Republican colleagues, who said he “spread disinformation so blatantly”.
Johnson, who is running for re-election in 2022, was part of a handful of lawmakers who contested the Electoral College certification for President Biden in January and repeatedly promoted baseless allegations of widespread electoral fraud in the 2020 elections.
He has yet to decide whether to run for a third term, but Democrat Tom Nelson, the Outagamie county executive and former state legislator, announced an offer in October to run against him.
In addition, other names have fluctuated as potential challengers for Johnson include Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, Attorney General Josh Kaul, state treasurer Sarah Godlewski and several members of the legislature.
