House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hired retired Lieutenant General Russel Honoré to lead “an immediate review” of the security of the U.S. Capitol Complex after pro-Trump armed uprisings plundered him last week.
“To protect our democracy, we must now subject the security of the United States Capitol Complex to rigorous scrutiny,” said Pelosi in a statement. “To that end, I asked Lieutenant General Russel Honoré (retired), a respected leader with experience in dealing with crises, to lead an immediate review of Capitol’s security infrastructure, interagency and command and control processes and procedures.”
In 2005, Honoré led the task force responsible for the US military response to Hurricane Katrina.
Honoré called the answer on Capitol during the attack of a “show s —“.
“For the record, I served on the deputy chief of the Joint J3 operations, my job was military support for civilian authority. In general, I know how that shit supposedly happened today in the capital’s security. , O @CapitalpoliceLS were in your ass @ 11thHour“he said in a tweet on January 6.
Last Wednesday, Trump supporters violated the United States Capitol and clashed with law enforcement while Congress was debating challenges to electoral votes before certifying Biden’s election. Pro-Trump crowds ransacked offices, stole and vandalized properties.

This week, the House of Representatives accused Trump of “inciting insurrection,” an indictment for his role in inciting an attempted coup on the United States Capitol, which led to the deaths of five people.
Honoré’s investigation comes at a time when inspectors general at various federal agencies also announce investigations into riot security and intelligence information, The Washington Post reported.
The Justice, Defense, Interior and Homeland Security departments have appointed internal investigators to investigate what was known about the January 6 event beforehand and what was done.
Several reports indicate a lack of action on key security information.
On January 5, an FBI report warned that pro-Trump rebels planned to wage a “war” on the United States Capitol the next day.
Earlier this week, it was also discovered that dozens of people on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s list of terrorists – especially those categorized as white supremacists – were in Washington, DC, on January 6.
The Post reported that law enforcement officials have opened almost 300 cases of people investigated for riots so far and have opened 98 criminal cases. They also received more than 100,000 tips.
Honoré, who retired in 2008, is known as a harsh and direct leader who was praised for his leadership after Katrina, CNN reported. His slogan was “Don’t get stuck in the stupid”
After the US response to the natural disaster in New Orleans was criticized, Honoré’s efforts to transform the military’s role and help soldiers work as rescuers were praised.
“He got out of the helicopter and started cursing and people started moving,” former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin said of Honoré.
