House Speaker Nancy Pelosi struggled with Lesley Stahl because of the coronavirus relief and admitted that Democrats suspended aid for eight months in part “because there was no respect for our heroes” during a “60-minute” interview that aired on Sunday.
Stahl noted that Pelosi, D-Calif., Was not “known as a person who compromises” after Republicans called his slow walk “sleazy”.
“No, I am,” replied Pelosi. “I will commit myself. We want to do the job. I am poorly characterized by Republicans in that way, but that is a tactic they use. But, we know that we want results for the American people.”

Stahl then presented the $ 900 billion coronavirus relief package that was approved in December after President-elect Joe Biden secured the election.
Pelosi said in the interview that he was stopped because of the Republican obstruction.
“Yours, too,” replied Stahl.
“No, it was not an obstruction. … We held him back because there was no respect for our heroes, our state and local health professionals, police and firefighters, our first aid, our sanitation, transportation, food workers, teachers, our teachers , our teachers. They wouldn’t go that way, “said Pelosi.
Pelosi defended the decision to suspend the aid package, which included $ 600 stimulus checks, although Stahl pointed out that Democratic Party members saw this as a mistake.

“They may have. But it is not – it was not a mistake, and I would not support it, and nobody expects me to support it, something that solidifies the injustice in our country,” said Pelosi.
Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Blamed Pelosi and his Senate counterpart, Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., for the aid package better late than never.
“I said in July that the country needed a $ 1 trillion package aimed at children at school, small businesses, health care providers and direct cash payments,” said McConnell in December. “We started defending this in July and August. The negotiations were unproductive, so I basically put this bill on the Senate floor in September and October. Not a single Democrat supported it. Their opinion was: give us everything we want or we will not give you anything. “

“It is noteworthy that in the end they finally gave us what we could have agreed on in July,” he continued. “I think what stopped it was that they didn’t want to do anything before the presidential election. I think they felt that it would put the president at a disadvantage.”
