Pelosi says Schiff, 3 others to lead Dems certification challenges at the Electoral College

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday announced the four members of Congress who will lead Democrats through the expected challenges and the debate in the joint session of Congress to certify the victory of President-elect Joe’s Biden Electoral College on Wednesday.

Representatives Adam Schiff, Zoe Lofgren, Jamie Raskin and Joe Neguse will lead Democrats on “the constitutional, historical and thematic justification for respecting the will of the people,” wrote Pelosi in an open letter to colleagues. “In the plenary session of the Chamber, we will have a civics class on how to protect the integrity of our democracy.”

“Tomorrow is a guarantee of confidence in our democratic system”, continued the speaker.

Several Republican legislators in the House and Senate have said they plan to oppose Biden’s 306-232 victory at the Electoral College on the basis of fraud charges to help Biden in various states of battle.

GUIDE FOR THE CERTIFICATION OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WEDNESDAY CONGRESS

President Trump’s team has lost numerous legal challenges since November in an effort to reverse the results.

Trump’s baseless allegations that there was “massive voter fraud” in the general election spurred some of his biggest supporters in Congress – more than 100 House Republicans and at least 13 Republican senators – to say they will object to the election results.

While the action of Trump’s supporters in Congress to raise objections to the results of the presidential election in states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Wisconsin, will slow the process down, it is expected to fall short.

The combined votes of Democrats in Congress, as well as that of many Republicans who do not support Trump’s attempts to overturn election results, should be more than enough to reject pressure from the president’s supporters.
