Miami is a long way from Wisconsin, but that hasn’t stopped House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from referring to senior state senator Ron Johnson as actor Don Johnson.
The California Democrat, at her weekly news conference on Thursday, criticized Johnson, a Republican, as “taking the lead” in the Republican Party’s response to the January 6 Capitol riot.
“Don Johnso n – was that his first name, Don? What is Ron? Pelosi told reporters.
Spoken about the confusion between ex-President Donald Trump’s staunch supporter and the pastel-colored star from the 1980s “Miami Vice” series, Pelosi corrected himself while laughing.
“Senator, let me call him. Not ‘Miami Vice’ or anything like that. Don Johnson, ”said Pelosi.
“Ron Johnson seems to be taking the lead on what the scope of how we look to protect our country from domestic terrorism would be,” she added.
Twitter users quickly noticed the slip – or the slight.

Azzzzonie posted a photo of the character Sonny Crockett, of Ferrari Testarossa Johnson, who drove in the series with a photo of the Wisconsin lawmaker.
“No, it’s him,” said Azzzzonie.
Kim Wexler’s ponytail said Pelosi did not make a mistake.
“If you think it was an accident, you don’t know Nancy,” said Ponytail in a tweet.
Elyse said there is no comparison between the two Johnsons.
“Okay, slip of the tongue, but we all know that Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson), of Miami Vice, was soooo much nicer than any politician, and he put the bad guys in prison on top of that,” said the post. “He made shadows from five o’clock, without socks, pastels in pastel colors, all tasty.”
Johnson, the senator, tried to lessen the gravity of the Capitol revolt, questioning whether the mafia members were really armed and claiming that “provocateurs” were behind the melee and not Trump supporters.
During the press conference, Pelosi attacked Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, who called on his proposal to nominate a January 6 commission to examine the “project supporter” riot.
She said McConnell was “taking a page out of Senator Johnson’s book”.
