Republicans are promising a “big push” to put pressure on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., To pay the fine she imposed for ignoring magnetometers installed after the Capitol rebellion to enter the floor.
Representative Rodney Davis, R-Ill., Detailed for Fox News his first-hand account of watching the speaker enter the House floor of a banned entry on Thursday.
“She opened the session in plenary, she came through what is known as the Speaker ‘s lobby,” said Davis. “We are all told, a Republican was fined for doing this yesterday, that you cannot walk through these entrances unless you are disabled.”
Pelosi’s office has not yet denied the account, despite requests for comment.
Congressman Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, was punished with a $ 5,000 fine on Friday for ignoring metal detectors when he said he had left the Chamber floor to use the bathroom.

Davis classified Pelosi’s actions as part of a “type of attitude typically good for you, not for me who comes from San Francisco.”
“Pay for the good speaker Pelosi,” wrote Representative Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, on Twitter.
Crenshaw told Fox News that Pelosi should pay the fine because his action was “against his own rules”.
“Now, is this a smart rule? No. Is it a rule that makes sense? No, of course not. But that’s not the point, the point is that it’s her rules. She literally confiscated property in the form of money, which we think it’s unconstitutional, but in any case, they’re doing it, ”continued the Texas Republican.
“She is not going to follow the rules alone, so we are going to make a big effort so that she really has to pay this fine,” said Crenshaw.
Davis called the Capitol Police to report the violation to the acting weapons sergeant, Timothy Blodgett, so that he could issue the fine. Blodgett said on Friday that the Capitol Police did not report the incident.

“The Capitol Police cannot just report violations against Republicans and ignore when the most powerful person in the House, the House Speaker, breaks his own rules,” said Davis.
The House passed a measure on Tuesday requiring all members to wear magnetometers that the Capitol police lifted out of the House chamber after the Capitol rebellion last month. Democrats called for the measure after several Republicans claimed to be armed in the chamber during the January 6 riot. Members of Congress can carry firearms on Capitol Hill, but not on the ground.
Several Republican lawmakers, including deputies Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Louie Gohmert of Texas, flatly refused to pass through metal detectors before entering the chamber – prompting Pelosi to add a penalty for non-compliance.
Lawmakers now receive a $ 5,000 fine the first time they violate the new security protocols, followed by a $ 10,000 fine for each additional violation.
“It is tragic that this measure is necessary, but the House of the People’s Chamber must and will be safe,” said Pelosi in a statement.
Republican Party lawmakers on the House Administration Committee sent a letter to Acting Sergeant-in-Arms Timothy Blodgett, requesting that she receive the $ 5,000 fine recently implemented for failing to complete a security screening before entering the House floor.
“Yesterday, at approximately 9:59 am, several members watched the mayor enter the town hall without completing the security screening,” the Republicans wrote on Friday in a letter obtained by Fox News.
“What was observed was a clear violation of Resolution 73 of the House and you are required by the House Rules to impose this fine. Please inform us as soon as the fine is assessed,” they continued. “We expect a quick response to this consultation.”
For the most part, Republicans see magnetometers as an ineffective inconvenience, arguing that threats like the one seen on January 6 do not come from fellow lawmakers.

“When you are a liberal, there is a penchant for action, even if the action is not effective,” said Crenshaw of the plenary’s new metal detectors and the fine for circumventing them. “There is a propensity for signaling virtue, even when that signaling is not effective.”
