Fans of Cillian Murphy and the BBC drama “Peaky Blinders” will receive bad news. The sixth season of the series will be the last, according to a report published in Variety.
The show, created by Oscar-nominated director Steven Knight, tells the story of Tommy Shelby (Murphy) and his family’s rise to power in the post-World War I city of Birmingham. Although the series recently resumed production due to the coronavirus, the BBC confirmed that Season 6 would end the series.
The change is somewhat shocking, considering that Knight recently met with Entertainment Weekly last year and hoped the series would continue beyond season six. But based on ongoing issues in the global market regarding filming, it is assumed that this precipitated the end of the program.
“‘Peaky’ is back and going strong,” Knight said in a prepared statement. “After the forced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we found the family in extreme danger and the stakes have never been higher. We believe that this will be the best series of all and we are sure that our incredible fans will love it. While the TV series is coming to an end, the story will continue in another form. ”The belief is that the series may have a spin-off or final film along the line, in the vein of the film“ Deadwood ”released in 2019.

“Peaky Blinders” premiered in the UK in 2013. During the third season, actor Tom Hardy joined the cast, meeting with Knight, who worked with him on the film “Locke”. The entire series was made available for streaming via Netflix.
There is currently no news as to when the sixth and final season of “Peaky Blinders” will air.
