Fresh air can be a rare commodity in the world of dawn conversations, a realm that often seems dominated by funny white guys named Jimmy doing his best to resolutely walk the line between “harmless” and “non-essential”. Which is just one of the reasons why Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show has been a consistent refreshment for the past six months. Arriving every Friday night on the NBC-affiliated channel streaming network, the series shows Ruffin’s welcome combination of high-energy comedy and skillful political skill, refusing to flee the most terrifying national issues of the day – often, it must be said, in the form of catchy music.

That’s why it’s so great to see that Peacock is embracing the role of Ruffin as part of its nocturnal ecosystem, renewing The Amber Ruffin Show for another six months on the streaming network. (No call for NBC major leagues yet, as potentially suggested for his brief replacement pass on the network earlier this year, but, hey: We will take you.) Ruffin produces, hosts and co-writes the program, in addition to your ongoing duties in Late night with Seth Meyers, but if she’s willing to quadruple her schedule like that for another half year, we’re happy to accept the benefits of the hard work she – and the other writers on the program, including editor-in-chief Jenny Hagel, most Ian Morgan, Ashley Nicole Black, Michael Harriot, internet favorite Demi Adejuyigbe, Shantira Jackson, and Dewayne Perkins – are participating in the series.
