Peacock is editing WWE content for sensitive materials – Deadline

Social media is in an uproar over Peacock’s decision to edit certain past events from his recently acquired video library from the WWE Network.

NBCUniversal has eliminated some correspondence, along with questionable racial content and profanity. Complaining fans claim that in doing so, the networks are “erasing history”, in the words of some enthusiasts.

The sources indicate that all Peacock content is classified and subject to the network’s standards and practices. The WWE schedule being edited is generally older footage that is more crude than the WWE family events shown most recently on the television network.

A major fan complaint about Peacock garrisons focuses on WrestleMania 6. Displayed on pay-per-view in 1990, the event saw the late Roddy Piper take on Bad News Brown. Piper, a white fighter, painted his body a bit black for his fight against Brown, a black fighter. That match, along with an interview by Piper, was deleted from the Peacock version of WrestleMania 6.

A 2005 Survivor Series 19 incident was also eliminated. In that event, WWE President Vince McMahon referred to black fighter Booker T using a slander.

The withdrawn moments still exist in social media areas and on DVDs.
