Paul Whelan’s family responds to statement against arbitrary detention

Canada released a Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State Relations on Monday.

The declaration aims to raise awareness and end the practice of arbitrary detention. Arbitrary detention occurs when someone is arrested or detained, but there is no likelihood or evidence that they have committed a crime – or there has been no adequate due process.

The brother of a Michigan man convicted of spying in Russia issued a statement saying the statement was “welcome news”.
