Paul Pierce makes a bold statement about Steph Curry’s future greatness

Steph Curry created some headlines on Monday when he addressed the media after training.

“I’m in the middle of my prime,” said the Warriors star. “There is definitely an awareness of the little things you can do – that I have done, that I am doing now, that I can do going forward – to ensure that your body is able to recover, to be in excellent condition to have the best chance to be ready for season after season after season.

“And then you make the necessary adjustments to how your game needs to transform and things like that … I feel like I’m in my 20s right now. I don’t know what that means. Maybe I’m just kidding myself.

“I have no concern about falling so soon.”

On Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s “The Jump”, host Rachel Nichols asked Paul Pierce if Curry’s statement about his cousin is “BS” or “Real Talk”.

“This is real talk,” said Pierce. “He is a player of all time, and players of all time find a way each year. He doesn’t depend on athletics very much. The way he handles the ball, the way he kicks – he may be doing it for more six or seven, I really believe that.

“If they get a few pieces around him, magic can happen to them again.”

The two-time NBA MVP certainly looked like the Steph peak on Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics, as he racked up 38 points (12 out of 21 overall, 7 out of 14 in 3s), 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals in 38 minutes.

Curry will turn 33 on March 14, so it is clearly an exaggeration to expect him to play at this level when he is 39 or 40.

But again, it is not advisable to bet against the three-time NBA champion. And you really believe that Curry can reach big numbers efficiently for several more seasons.

“He’s still gaining momentum, he’s still gaining power, he’s still getting faster,” said Curry personal trainer Brandon Payne in September. “He is still refining movement patterns, and all athletes develop at different speeds … not only is their skill level continuously evolving, but their body is still developing.

“He still has a lot. It is too early to try to see when the end will be.”

Correct. Basketball fans everywhere should just live in the moment and feel happy to have the opportunity to watch Curry night after night.
