Paul McCartney says he talks to the late Beatles bandmate George Harrison through a tree

Paul McCartney says he still feels connected to the late Beatles band member George Harrison and often “talks” to him.

The 78-year-old rocker has revealed that he likes to visit and chat with a perennial conifer tree that is planted near his home in East Sussex, England.

Harrison gave him the tree before he died in 2001, after a battle with lung cancer. He was 58 years old.

“George was very fond of horticulture, [he was] a really good gardener, “the legendary Grammy winner told NPR’s All Things Considered.” He gave me [the] tree as a gift. It is a large pine tree and is near my gate. “

“When I was leaving home [on the morning of Dec. 18], I got out of the car near the gate, looked at the tree and said, ‘Hi, George’, “described McCartney.” There he is, growing strongly … This takes me back to the time when I hitchhiked with him! [George and John Lennon still have] an ever-present presence. “

The singer and songwriter described the tree as “adorable” and “over the years, every time I look at it, I think ‘This is the tree that George gave me.’ George went into that tree for me. I hope he is happy about it. “

McCartney also talked about being with Harrison during his battle with cancer.

PAUL MCCARTNEY SAID IT WAS ‘TWO TOO’ TO KEEP BEATLES AFTER JOHN LENNON LEAVE

“We were in New York before he went to Los Angeles to die … We were sitting there, and I was holding his hand, and it occurred to me – I never said that – I don’t want to hold George’s hand. You don’t hold your mate’s hands. I mean, we don’t handle it anyway, “he detailed.

The artist described how Harrison traveled around the world to try to find a cure and became tired and frustrated towards the end of his life.

“I remember he was getting a little irritated about having to travel all the time – in search of a cure. He had gone to Geneva to see what they could do. Then he went to a special clinic in New York to see the they could do. So the idea was to go to LA and see what they could do. He was kind of like, ‘Can’t we just stay in the same place?’ And I said, ‘Yes, Speke Hall. Let’s go to Speke Hall, “he said.

“That was one of the last things we said to each other, knowing that he would be the only person in the room who would know what Speke Hall (a public garden and property in Liverpool) was. Anyway, it was good for me when I was holding George’s hands, he looked at me and there was a smile. “
