It comes after the new album reached the top of the charts in Paul’s native UK, becoming his first number one album in the country in over 30 years.

The album was confirmed to have reached number one on the afternoon of Christmas Day, and sold 25,000 combined units, according to the Official Charts Company.

The Beatles singer wrote and recorded the album during the blackout period earlier this year, and he recently revealed it was a happy accident.

Speaking to Idris Elba for the BBC, Paul admits that he ‘didn’t realize’ what he was creating when he did it.

He started: ‘[In] lockdown everyone cleaned their cabinets and did all the things they intended to do. So [making an album] it was my equivalent.

‘I wasn’t trying to make an album. So suddenly I had these 10 songs, I thought, what am I going to do with them? It was only 10 because I didn’t know I was making an album. ‘

Paul later explained why he called his album McCartney III.

He continued: ‘I realized, because I played myself, I made McCartney I and McCartney II along the same lines, that this would be McCartney III. So it was like, oh, I understand what I’m doing now.
