Patrick Mahomes tried to take Trent Williams to Kansas City

The Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl LIV. In pursuit to face Trent Williams, the 49ers had a small reward.

Through Matt Barrows of TheAthletic.com, the Chiefs made an effort to catch Williams. Obviously, he chose to stay with the 49ers.

As Barrows explains, defender Patrick Mahomes was directly involved in recruiting, with a “strong move” through text messages and phone calls with the aim of getting Williams to join the double AFC champion.

Mahomes and Williams know each other, and their hometowns in Texas are about 30 minutes away.

Per Barrows, that was not enough to overcome Williams’ bond with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan. This goes back to the time they spent together in Washington.

Bosses will now have to deal with vacancies in their offensive line elsewhere. They added Joe Thuney, but his effort to make Williams shows that they have not yet been completed.
