Patrick Mahomes is due to undergo toe surgery on Wednesday – an injury that has hurt him since the AFC playoff division round.
The Kansas City Chiefs star will repair a torn plantar plate on his toe, the NFL Network reported. The injury, commonly known as the toe turf, appeared to affect his speed on the pitch in recent weeks. However, he was allowed to play in the Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The team probably didn’t expect him to run that far, but he was rushed by the Buccaneers’ defense in almost every snap.
Mahomes totaled 497 yards before throwing the ball or being fired by the Buccaneers’ defense, according to Next generation statistics. It was by far the highest total of any NFL defender this season.

Mahomes is expected to fully recover, but the rehabilitation will take several months, the NFL Network reported.
The quarterback said Monday that the defeat will definitely serve as a motivation to return next season.
“When you are a competitor and you come so close to your final goal and fall short, it will motivate you for the rest of your career. It was a bad feeling in that locker room after the game, ”he said.

“You don’t want to have that feeling again and, luckily, we will have a lot of the same guys back and, obviously, we will add new guys and set the tone since the beginning of the year, beginning of the off-season that we have to be better at. We have to be better than last year to go there and win the Super Bowl. “
