Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs wearing a special orthosis for toe injury from the grass

Kansas City bosses QB Patrick Mahomes will fight in the AFC championship game against Buffalo Bills. He suffered the injury during the playoff division win against the Cleveland Browns, but was largely overshadowed by him entering the NFL’s concussion protocol.

A new report by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports provides some new information on how the Chiefs are planning to protect Mahomes from worsening his toe injury during the game. Glazer considered the issue of concussion to be an irrelevant factor in the game for the AFC title, but said the team was “very concerned” about Mahomes’ toe.

According to Glazer, Mahomes’ left shoe will be fitted with a special carbon fiber orthosis that they hope will protect the toe from further injury. This can cause some problems when it comes to your mobility, however. Carbon fiber is very rigid and does not allow the flexibility needed for certain things. He may even have trouble planting his foot and pushing.

Check out the Glazer report below, with some more information on the concussion situation:

It is starting to look like this toe injury is a little worse than what the team initially left. Only time will tell if it affects Mahomes during the game. He may be dealing with limited mobility and one day playing out of pocket or he may gut everything and look like his normal self out there. Let’s wait for the last one.
