Patrick Mahomes laughs at comment about ‘old man race’

You really can’t stop Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, you can only hope to contain it. New York Jets coach Robert Saleh knows this very well. Mahomes made an excellent recovery against the sale of San Francisco 49ers from Saleh in the Super Bowl LIV.

A year after that loss, Saleh is trying to pay for things for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When asked what advice he would give to the Bucs ‘defensive line, Saleh told them not to be fooled by Mahomes’ “old run”, according to Pro Football Talk.

Mahomes was not offended by the comment. He loved it.

Saleh was referring to Mahomes’ mobility. When running to the heap, Mahomes may look like an “old man”, but as soon as the game starts, Mahomes starts the jets. Saleh’s message was mainly about Bucs’ defenders never letting their guard down. If they do, Mahomes can extend the moves and win them.

Saleh’s full comment was:

“You have to be unforgiving. You have to be relentless. Just when you think you can have it, it can take two steps back and throw your foot back. I mean, he has a ridiculous arm talent, he has tremendous precision, he has tremendous mobility. Whenever you are a pass rusher, just understand that he can make your old man run between plays where your feet seem to hurt, but don’t be fooled. He has tremendous mobility. The strength of his arm is ridiculous. You have to be relentless all the time. And understand that there can be a move and a second move that happens just because of your ability to extend the moves and make shots that other people can’t.

Patrick Mahomes wants to win the second consecutive Super Bowl

While Saleh’s advice is useful, getting to Mahomes first is easier said than done. Many teams have tried to stop Mahomes in the past three years. Few have been successful. Saleh’s defense actually did a good job against Mahomes in the Super Bowl LIV by three quarters, but Mahomes managed to recover in the fourth period.

It may not have worked at Super Bowl LIV, but Saleh’s advice is perfect. Even though the Bucs have a big advantage, they cannot give up against Mahomes. When he starts, the Chiefs are impossible to defeat.
