Patrick Mahomes is still dealing with the toe problem before the AFC Championship: report

Patrick Mahomes may have canceled the concussion protocol and got the go-ahead to play the AFC Championship against Buffalo Bills, but the Kansas City Chiefs star is still suffering.

Mahomes is still dealing with a toe injury he suffered during the Chiefs’ victory over the Cleveland Browns in the divisional round and before leaving with the head injury, NFL Network reported Sunday.

Mahomes was seen limping during the game, but he didn’t miss a single move because of his toe. The toe injury was listed in the Chiefs’ injury report this week. The NFL Network said Mahomes will consult with a specialist after the season is over to determine whether he will need surgery.

The Super Bowl LIV MVP was listed as a limited participant in practice, but it supposedly took all or most of the reps in the quarterback and it was the toe that affected him the most.

Mahomes was the one who told reporters on Friday that he was free to play. He said he and team officials do not believe that the latest effects of the injury have occurred.

“You want to be there, but you have to follow the protocol, and you have to do it the right way. I mean, you have to look at the long term as much as you look at the short term and go to all the doctors and talk to all doctors and undergoing tests, we have to believe that there will be no prolonged effects and that I will be able to go out there and be myself and who I am every week, “he said.
