Patrick Mahomes comments on the Britt Reid accident that left a 5 year old child seriously injured

Patrick Mahomes offered his prayers to the family of the 5-year-old girl who was seriously injured in an accident last week involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker coach Britt Reid, the son of coach Andy Reid.

Mahomes commented on the incident after the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Super Bowl LV on Sunday night. He said the accident didn’t really affect the team during the game.

“It is difficult to put into words,” said Mahomes. “The guys were still ready to go. It is still a very tragic situation and you want to keep that in mind and pray for the family involved. I don’t want to say that it affected us on the field. They hit us. There is no excuse for that. But you are definitely praying for these families. “

While CBS Sports host Jim Nantz offered his condolences at the end of the game on Sunday, Andy Reid was asked about the accident. The Chiefs, up to this point, just said they were discovering more information about the accident and that the technician stayed at home.

“My heart goes out to everyone who was involved in the accident, in particular the family with the girl who is fighting for her life,” said Reid, via ESPN. “I can’t comment on this any more than what I’m here for. So as for the questions you have, I will have to reject them; but, only from a human point of view, my heart bleeds for everyone involved in it.”

Reid was also asked whether the accident was a distraction.

“We put the game plan in the previous week. The distraction was not a distraction with regard to the game plan. That was already defined and how we were going to work with it and move on,” he added. “From a human point of view, it’s difficult. From a football point of view, I don’t think it was a problem.”

Britt Reid, 35, has yet to face charges for the accident that left 5-year-old girl Ariel seriously injured. He would be under investigation and would have been operated on after the incident. He reportedly told the police that he drank 2-3 drinks and was drinking Adderall.

FOX4 KC obtained police documents that corresponded to the details of the accident. The documents say that Reid told the police that he was driving a truck involved in the accident and told a police officer that he had between two and three drinks and had an Adderall prescription. The police said that no names were identified in the police report.

The accident occurred near the south ramp of I-435, according to FOX4 KC. A Chevrolet Impala driver ran out of gas and asked for help on the ramp, police said. The police report said the emergency lights were flashing, but the car’s battery was starting to die when a family arrived in a Chevrolet Traverse and parked near them with their headlights on.

The station reported, citing accident documents, that a white Dodge truck was traveling south on the ramp to reach the interstate when the driver hit the Impala and hit Traverse from behind.

The Impala driver was inside the car at the time of the accident and was not injured, and two adults at Traverse were also unhurt, according to the station.
