While the clock is counting down to Meghan Markle’s sensationalist interview on Sunday night, a man from his past (who is not her terrible ex-husband) is ready to play hands with the royal family. In a series of increasingly aggressive tweets, Patrick J. Adams, who starred alongside Markle for several seasons in the legal drama Suits, defended the former actress from the new charges of bullying that have come up against her at Buckingham Palace. In addition to declaring Markle a “generous, cheerful and supportive” member of the Suits family with a “fierce work ethic,” Adams, like many others, questioned the timing of the bullying allegations in his anti-monarchist speech. We highly recommend reading in full:

Meghan Markle and I spent most of a decade working on Suits together. From the first day she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, generous, cheerful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague according to the accumulated fame, prestige and power. She has always been a powerful woman with a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic and has never been afraid to speak, to be heard and to defend herself and her loved ones. Like the rest of the world, I have watched her sail in recent years with astonishment. She fell in love, moved to a new country, became a household name all over the world and started the difficult job of trying to find her place in a family dynamic that can, at best, be described as complicated and, at worst, apparently archaic and toxic.

I was disgusted to read the endless racist, slanderous and anti-click vitriol thrown at you by all the media in the UK and the world, but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret it to underestimate it. And then they welcomed Archie. And on any kind of decent planet, this would be the time to stop sharpening your knives and let these two people enjoy the magical first few months and years of starting a family. But we don’t live on that planet, and the hunt continued instead.

IT IS OBSCENE that the Royal Family, which is the newest member currently GROWING UP WITH HER, is promoting and expanding accusations of “bullying” against a woman who was basically forced to flee the UK to protect her family and her own mental health. IMO, this most recent chapter and its moment are just another striking example of the shame of an institution that has survived its relevance, is completely abandoned in credibility and apparently bankrupt in decency. Find someone else to warn, rebuke, and harass. My friend Meghan is out of your reach.

Adams has maintained a close relationship with Markle since the duo’s departure Suits together in 2017: he attended his royal wedding and publicly celebrated all his milestones as duchess. Meanwhile, Markle has returned to her native California with Prince Harry and her son, Archie, and the couple is expecting their second child as non-working members of the royal family. His revealing promises to open the floodgates for palace gossip and not, like, discuss a potential Suits meeting.
