Patrick Ewing furious after being stopped by MSG security: ‘Is my number on the rafters or what?’

Patrick Ewing was an 11-time All-Star member of the New York Knicks, but the center of the Hall of Fame was not very happy with the safety of MSG constantly stopping him in the hallways of the building he called home for more than a decade.

Now the male basketball coach in his alma mater, Ewing has had a complete life cycle, leading Georgetown to an incredible 72-71 victory over Villanova’s No. 1 in the quarter-final round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Ewing, who was also a member of the 92 “Dream Team”, was thrilled with Georgetown’s victory.

“I thought this building was mine,” Ewing told reporters. “And I feel terrible about being stopped, approached, asking for passes, everyone in this building should know who the hell I am. I’m being stopped. I can’t move in this building. What the hell? Is this Madison Square Garden?

Chosen in Georgetown as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, Ewing is arguably the greatest player in the franchise’s history and was recognized by the team for his achievements when the Knicks removed his No. 33 shirt in 2003.

“I’m going to have to call [Knicks owner James Dolan] and say, ‘Wow, is my number on the beams or what?’ “

“Jim and Patrick have a long-standing relationship; they spoke this afternoon and reaffirmed that,” said MSG in a statement. “We all know, respect and appreciate what he means for The Garden and New York. Good luck to him and his Hoyas in the Big East semifinals.”

After the big win over Villanova, Hoyas will face Seton Hall in the semifinal of the tournament. It will be Georgetown’s first appearance in the semifinal at the Big East tournament since 2015.
