A Spirit Airlines plane bound for Los Angeles was diverted to Denver on Wednesday, when a passenger apparently tried to open an exit door during the flight.
Video of another passenger on Spirit Airlines flight 185 showed passengers and crew members arresting the man near the exit door. A passenger, who asked not to be identified, told NBCLA that the man came out of the bathroom shirtless and tried to open the exit door.
Later, the video showed the man being held in a chair by another man.
Officials removed the passenger from the plane, which left Cleveland, Denver. The flight continued to Los Angeles International Airport after a delay and arrived after midnight.
“It is important to note that opening a door during flight is impossible due to the air pressure inside the cabin holding the door against its frame with a force greater than anyone could overcome,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement. “Safety is our number one priority at Spirit Airlines. The police found the aircraft in Denver and took the passenger into custody. We thank the crew members and guests who helped to deal with this situation quickly before arrival. “
In another video, the same passenger is shown on a stretcher being transported by paramedics inside the Denver airport. The paramedics were accompanied by an individual wearing clothes from the Transportation Security Administration.
The passenger’s identity was not immediately available. Further details on what led to the flight interruption were not immediately available.
