US Customs and Border Protection officers at Chicago O’Hare International Airport seized 3,200 Viagra pills from a man on a flight back from India. The man claimed that more than $ 96,000 in pills was for “his friends”.
CBP officers conducting a baggage check on a flight from India to Chicago O’Hare found eight boxes of Viagra pills. The boxes contained 3,200 tablets of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra), according to information obtained from the US Office of Field Operations for Customs and Border Protection.
CBP officials asked the man who was returning from India why he was taking so many Viagra pills. He replied that the pills were for “his friends”. He also stated that the pills are available as an over-the-counter medicine in India.
CBP officials seized the nine-pound Viagra pills, since they were illegally imported drugs. The FDA does not allow the import of what is considered to be prescription drugs in the U.S., officials said.
“Prescription drugs manufactured by unregulated foreign companies often contain dangerous contaminants or ineffective compounds, and although their packaging and labeling may be similar to genuine products, inconsistent ingredients and substandard quality controls can endanger consumers,” said officials. CBP in a written statement.
The authorities calculate the retail value of 3,200 tablets at $ 96,608. They did not disclose how much the man paid for the pills in India.
Authorities reported the seizure of the pills, but did not disclose whether CBP officials arrested the man for an illegal attempt to import the drug. Breitbart Texas contacted CBP employees for additional information. An immediate response was not available.
