Are we having fun already? A limited “Party Down” follow-up series is in development at Starz.
The network announced that it is “reliving the party” with the development of the next limited six-part series “Party Down”. The use of “revive” implies that the original cast will return. However, at this time no official announcement of the cast has been made.
“At the end of 2019, the cast and producers of ‘Party Down’ came together for a retrospective of the show presented by Vulture. We had so much fun that we wanted to find a way to bring the team together again, ”said executive producer Rob Thomas. “The squad is so busy these days that finding a window where we can do this may require trigonometry, but we are determined to make it happen.”
“Party Down” follows a Los Angeles catering team who are all aspiring Hollywood prisoners working for tips – sometimes, but sometimes (OK, most of the time) they just take the guaranteed 20% – while they wait and wait for your great opportunities. Each episode of the comedy took place at a different event that the team is working on, and they inevitably get very immersed in the lives of their guests.
The original series was shown on Starz for two seasons between 2009 and 2010. Initially, it starred Ken Marino, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen and Lizzy Caplan. In the second season, Megan Mullally joined the cast, while Lynch switched to a guest star role.
“Before the cast of ‘Party Down’ became well known on television, in movie actors and award winners, everyone wore the same pink ties as part of an inefficient Los Angeles wait staff while pursuing their dreams of stardom. not the Starz series, ”said Christina Davis, Starz’s original president of programming. “Fans have been waiting for more than 10 years for this revival to happen and we are thrilled to be in development with Rob, Paul, Dan and John at the helm.”
The backstage team of this new version of the show brings together the original executive producers of “Party Down” Thomas, John Enbom (who will act as a showrunner), Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge. Karen Bailey, Starz’s executive vice president of programming, is overseeing the program on behalf of the network.
The limited series will be produced by Lionsgate Television.
“Party Down” now joins a growing list of fan-favorite series that are having new versions. At Peacock, “Saved by the Bell” and “Punky Brewster” received treatment for the continuation series, with original cast members appearing alongside new series regulars, while Showtime features a limited version of “Dexter”, for example .
