Parler’s ban puts the random app ‘Parlor’ at the top of the app store charts

The online spaces where you can talk freely about overthrowing the government in the name of Q and white supremacy are increasingly difficult to find. An old, random application is now reaping the benefits.

In the past few days, both Google and Apple have removed the Parler app from their app stores until it puts some content moderation in place to prevent people, you know, from using it as a platform to plan and incite acts of betrayal. . Amazon Web Services is even denying the company access to its servers, starting Monday night.

Now, the second most downloaded free app on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store is an app called Parlor. This is Parlor with an “o”, not an “e”.

Coincidence? We don’t think so.

Parlor is a “social chat app” where people can come in and chat with strangers about different subjects. It has been around for 10 years, according to the list of apps, and Sensor Tower data indicates that it had 40,000 downloads in December 2020. Its analysis isn’t great to say the least, and it looks, well, very pornographic.

There is no reason why this app is getting so big a jump right now, in the first week of January 2021. But of course, we probably mistook people for downloading it because they think it’s Parler with an e. So, uh …. happy Parlor-ing!
