Parents find bright hiding place for console Christmas gift

The PlayStation 5 was easily one of the hottest items this holiday season, and several parents worked overtime to secure the console as a Christmas gift. Given the effort that the majority had to put through, parents can hardly be held responsible for working overtime to ensure that the secret is kept well hidden. Reddit user bbbbbbbbbb99 shared an image of the perfect hiding place for the PS5: on the bottom shelf of the dishwasher, since most teenagers aren’t the best at opening the device to store dishes! Of course, as some Reddit users were quick to point out, it could backfire, if the dishwasher was turned on in any way!

With the holiday season starting to slow, it will be interesting to see what impact this will have on demand for the PS5 console. After the system’s launch in November, PS5 units became a difficult item to track. In the secondary market, the console commanded more than twice its MSRP, which was probably exacerbated by the use of bots. Demand for the console was so high this year that it even resulted in one of the best Saturday Night Live skits of the season, about a fan who obsessively writes for Santa Claus asking for the console. Clearly, the system has become something of a cultural phenomenon in recent months!

While some parents and fans managed to get the system without much difficulty, others can hardly be blamed for postponing the purchase of a PS5 until after the holidays. After all, some of the best games on the system can also be purchased on PS4. System shortages are very common around launch, especially considering the fact that most consoles tend to be released around November. In October, Sony announced its plans to ship 7.6 million PS5 consoles worldwide by March 2021. If the company expects to achieve this ambitious number of sales, it will need to make the consoles more available, which will mean more opportunities for fans to grab 1.
