Panthers put franchise tag on right striker Taylor Moton

CHARLOTTE – The Panthers took a big step towards stabilizing their offensive line on Tuesday.

The team put the franchise mark on the right Taylor Moton attack, ensuring that he will be here for at least another season.

The one-year deal guaranteed by the label will pay Moton between $ 13 million and $ 14 million, depending on the number of the final salary cap (which has not been finalized). The limit is dropping from $ 198.2 million to about $ 180 million this year, tightening things across the NFL.

The team still hopes to hire him for a long term, and may until July 15.

Moton, 26, has started every game in the past three seasons. Having him back was crucial, as pivot Matt Paradis was the only other contract holder.

Moton, a pick of Western Michigan’s second round of 2017, played almost every snap during that period (losing six snap in 2019, or 0.54 percent of the team’s total) and was called in for just one penalty last year.

The Panthers also brought back reserve tackle Trent Scott, and have Dennis Daley and Greg Little under contract with last year’s training squads, but they are obviously far from finished with the lineup.

But they took the biggest step, guaranteeing their best player.

Moton is the third offensive striker the Panthers have scored in the franchise’s history, and both left striker Jordan Gross and center Ryan Kalil have signed long-term contracts with the team.
