Palm Beach reviewing Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence

“Our city attorney is reviewing the agreement and the laws surrounding it,” Palm Beach city manager Kirk Blouin told The Hill.

Trump moved to his Florida club on the morning of January 20 after leaving office, before President Biden was sworn in.

The former president’s decision to make Mar-a-Lago his permanent residence may be in violation of the rules set out in a previous agreement with the city when he decided to convert his private residence into a club in 1993.

Among those conditions were that club members, including Trump, could only spend a maximum of seven consecutive days and no more than three weeks a year on the premises, reports CNN.

Blouin told the Miami Herald last month that the city was unaware of Trump’s intention to permanently reside at his club in Palm Beach, but that he would “resolve the matter properly” if necessary.

A Trump Organization spokesman previously told the Herald that “There is no document or agreement in place that prohibits President Trump from using Mar-a-Lago as his residence.”

It is unclear when the review should be completed, however, Trump’s residency at the club could be a topic of discussion at a city council meeting on February 9, reports CNN.
