Pagani’s new 9,000-rpm V12 N / A looks like an old F1 engine

There are some incredible videos on YouTube out there featuring Pagani Zonda R and his successor Revolucion and, over time, we’re sure there will be for the new Huayra R.

Like the Zonda circuit-only versions, the Huayra R packs a naturally aspirated V12. Instead of borrowing it from Mercedes-AMG, however, Pagani’s new multi-million treadmill toy has an engine “designed from scratch” by none other than HWA AG. The German company was behind the legendary Mercedes CLK GTR and, more recently, participated in the development of another N / A V12 supercar – the Apollo IE.

Although we have to wait a little longer before we hear the Huayra R being moved in anger, we can have a preview of this bench test footage. And sweet sir, it looks good.

The engine peaks at 9,000 rpm or 9,200 rpm (Pagani quoted both numbers – we contacted them for clarification), screaming through Inconel exhaust manifolds with tubes of equal length, creating that classic Pagani noise.

The 6.0-liter unit is impressively light, weighing 198kg and can travel about 6,000 miles between services. It forms a stressed member of the chassis and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.

Unfortunately for us normal people, the carbon fiber package all wrapped up costs € 2.6 million. More taxes.
