Packers WR Davante Adams enters rare territory with another dominant performance

During a football season with almost no real disappointment at Green Bay, the only thing of concern may be the fact that Packers receiver Davante Adams had to lose two games due to an injury.

What Adams achieved during the other 13 games was nothing extraordinary.

The Packers Pro Bowl receiver took 11 passes for 142 yards and three more touchdowns during Green Bay’s 40-14 rout of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday night, adding another chapter to what has been the season of his life for Adams .

In just 13 games, Adams has 109 receptions, 1,328 yards and 17 touchdowns.

His 17 touchdowns tie him to the Hall of Famer Don Hutson for the second highest number in the team’s history. Adams now follows Sterling Sharpe’s 18 years on record.

Adams also became only the 11th player in NFL history to receive at least 17 touchdown passes in a single season, and he is only the third player with at least 100 receptions, 1,300 reception yards and 17 touchdowns in one season, putting together Cris Carter (1995) and Randy Moss (2003).

The Titans had no answer for No. 17 in a snow-covered Lambeau Field.

Adams scored the opening score, giving the Packers a 6-0 lead, and extended the lead to 19-0 in the second touchdown in the second quarter. Later, he had the scoring response to the Titans ‘touchdown to open the second half, and he produced an extensive 32-yard reception setting the Packers’ final touchdown.

Asked about Adams after Sunday night’s victory, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said his receiver joined Hall of Fame’s defensive back Charles Woodson among the greatest players Rodgers has ever played with.

Adams and Rodgers are now the most prolific passing finalists in Packers history, with 493 submissions in total. The quarterback and receiver combination has also produced 56 touchdowns since Adams joined the NFL in 2014.

The Packers finish the 2020 regular season against the Bears in Chicago next Sunday. At his current pace, Adams will end the year with 117 receptions, 1,430 yards and 18 touchdowns.
