Packers use restricted second-round bidding at TE Robert Tonyan

The Green Bay Packers are bringing Robert Tonyan back on a restricted free agent offer.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers gave Tonyan the second round bid, which cost $ 3.384 million at the limit in 2021.

Restricted bidding is guaranteed for one year. This allows Tonyan the opportunity to sign an offer sheet with a different team, but if the Packers do not stick to the deal, the team will have to send a second round choice in the 2021 draft to Green Bay, setting a level of compensation that must prevent teams from making the move.

Tonyan took 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns in 16 games in 2020. He averaged 11.3 yards per catch and 9.9 yards per target, while hitting 88.1% of his targets.

According to Silverstein, the bidding may be a prelude to the Packers negotiating a long-term deal.

Tonyan is one of six restricted free agents, but he is the only player who should receive a proposal from the Packers.
