Packers release former Browns LB Christian Kirksey

The Green Bay Packers launched former Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey after just one season.

The Packers broke ties with Kirksey in a move to see some wage ceiling space. Green Bay also abandoned Rick Wagner after just one season.

Kirksey was the captain of the Browns and the team’s emotional leader for most of his 2014-19 term in Cleveland. Injuries bothered “Kirko” in Cleveland and unfortunately moved to Green Bay.

From Packers Wire,

Hired to provide a veteran linebacker to former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, Kirksey fought early, lost five games due to a chest injury and was eventually replaced as the team’s No. 1 linebacker. He intercepted two passes and produced two sacks, but qualified as one of the worst internal NFL linebackers in Pro Football Focus during the 2020 season.

The Browns need some help from the linebacker, but Kirksey’s inability to stay healthy or perform consistently seems to prevent him from returning to Cleveland.
