Packers raise CB Tramon Williams to the list of players for the NFC title

The Green Bay Packers will have veteran cornerback Tramon Williams available for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.

The team elevated Williams to the training team’s player roster as a COVID-19 replacement for Jared Veldheer, who remains on the reserve list.

The Packers hired Williams for the training team on Thursday. He returned to Green Bay after playing six games with the Baltimore Ravens, including last week’s playoff loss to Buffalo Bills.

Now in his third stint at Packers, Williams played in all 34 games with the Packers in 2018 and 2019, including both playoff games last season. He served as Mike Pettine’s defender in the slot last season, but could provide depth in all positions in the secondary, including security.

The last game Williams played with the Packers was the loss of the NFC Championship Game last year to the San Francisco 49ers. If he plays on Sunday, he will become the first player in NFL history to play a postseason game with two different teams in one season.

Williams has played in four other NFC title games: 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2019.

Former Packers general manager Ted Thompson originally hired Williams for the training team in 2006.

The Packers also elevated defensive lineman Brian Price and cornerback KeiVarae Russell from the training team, hired punter Ryan Winslow for the training team and dismissed the running back Dexter Williams from the training team.
