The Los Angeles Rams launched a ave maria, but Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers hit back without a second thought.
According to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, the Rams “considered running a tough race” in an exchange for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers before finally agreeing to a deal for Matthew Stafford, but the Packers rejected the commercial investigations and went ” adamant “about not negotiating the presumed MVP.
The Rams also analyzed Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans, by Farmer, highlighting the wide network launched by Los Angeles to update as a defender through the trade market.
With Rodgers and Watson out of the picture, the Rams concluded a deal that sent Jared Goff and future first-round picks to the Lions for Stafford, who wanted to leave Detroit.
This is the first reported attempt at negotiation for Rodgers, who is expected to win his third MVP award after launching 48 touchdown passes and leading the NFL in percent completion and passer rank in 2020. The Packers traded in the first round for draft Jordan Amei last April and may eventually pass from Rodgers to start the era of Love, but no transition seems imminent.
In fact, it is certainly possible that the conversation between the Rams and the Packers was quick. The Rams, doing their due diligence to improve as a quarterback, had to call the Packers about Rodgers. An uncompromising denial suggests that the Packers were not at all interested in having the conversation.
All signs continue to point to Rodgers as the Packers quarterback in 2021.
