In 2010, the Green Bay Packers claimed a large and clogged charge against the exemptions. That player, Howard Green, ended up making a significant impact as a rotating player throughout the second half of the season and was partly responsible for a massive game in the Super Bowl XLV. Green’s strike on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger forced a bad pass, which safety Nick Collins intercepted and returned for a touchdown.
Today’s on-call transaction is very likely to have an impact similar to what happened more than ten years ago, but it is not difficult to imagine some similarities.
On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers reportedly filed an exemption complaint from Damon “Snacks” Harrison, who was recently dismissed by the Seattle Seahawks. According to the NFL’s transaction thread, as reported by various media sources, the Packers will receive Harrison through the resignation process, as no other team with worse records has evidently made a complaint.
Whether Harrison chooses to play for the Packers is in question, as he tweeted earlier in the day that “it will not be claimed”. In addition, he seems to want to choose his destination, as he said it would not be “doing the resignation thing. Harrison also declined a Packers contract offer a few weeks ago when he was on the Seahawks’ training team, opting to stay with Seattle for the extended race. However, when he had a healthy scratch on game day on Sunday, he requested his release, which the team conceded on Tuesday.
Still, if he comes to Green Bay, he will join a team that is about to win first place in the NFC. Harrison was a full-time holder for seven years before he ceased to be a free agent this spring. He played six games for Seattle in 2020, aligning with about 35 percent of the team’s defensive plays in those games. He recorded a forced fumble and nine tackles in that period, including a post of six assists and that forced fumble in a game against the New York Jets in Week 14.
UPDATE: It looks like Harrison is willing to join the Packers after all. This Twitter exchange effectively confirms that the Packers are one of the teams that Harrison is interested in playing:
