As the 2021 negotiation deadline approaches, several interesting commercial ideas have started to emerge in the league. This includes the hypothetical highly successful deal between the Indiana Pacers and the Dallas Mavericks involving Kristaps Porzingis and Myles Turner. In the scenario proposed by Greg Patuto de NBA Analysis Network, the Pacers would be shipping a package that includes Turner, Jeremy Lamb, Doug McDermott, a first round choice in 2022 and a first round choice in 2024 for the Mavericks in exchange for Porzingis and Dorian Finney-Smith.
If the deal is approved, Patuto believes it would be beneficial for Indiana and Dallas. Although it would cost them two future selections in the first round, the Pacers would be getting the best player in the business. When healthy, Porzingis could form a formidable duo on the front line with Domantas Sabonis in Indiana.
“The Pacers would have to send some draft capital back, but they would be getting an interesting player at Porzingis. When healthy, your ability is undeniable. Porzingis has the size to dominate at base and defense and the ability to shoot to make him a unique player. A front line of Domantas Sabonis and Kristaps Porzingis should make Pacers fans very excited. This is something that would bring Indiana back almost relevant. They are currently in the middle of the pack team and will probably need to make a move to get back to the top. “

The Mavericks brought Porzingis to Dallas with the hope that the duo with Luka Doncic could speed up the reconstruction process and give them a legitimate chance to return to the title fight. However, although the duo Doncic and Porzingis managed to show good chemistry on the court, “The Unicorn” is unable to stay healthy and has dealt with numerous injuries in his young career.
By sending him to the Pacers, the Mavericks would be acquiring another great young and promising man in Turner, along with two important players in Lamb and McDermott. It would also help them replenish their war chest with future recruiting resources. Turner may not be as good as a healthy Porzingis, but he is able to fill the huge hole he would be leaving at both ends of the floor in Dallas.
It would give the Mavericks a very reliable scoring option under the basket, a large rebound, a quality rim protector and a center spacing ground. This season, the 24-year-old has an average of 14.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.9 blocks and 1.2 steals, while shooting 51.6 percent of the field and 34.1 percent beyond the bow, for ESPN. Giving Doncic a better-lasting All-Star gauge racing companion like Turner could help the Mavericks end their losing streak and put themselves back in the playoff race in the 2020-21 NBA season.
