Indiana Pacers announced that guard Caris LeVert was out indefinitely after an MRI showed a small mass in his left kidney during a physical examination.
“We are grateful for your extreme meticulousness during the physical process and I look forward to joining the team and being part of this great organization as soon as possible,” said LeVert in a statement, according to ESPN Malika Andrews.
LeVert, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Brooklyn Nets, was signed by Pacers as part of a four-team deal that included James Harden, NBA MVP 2017-18, from Houston Rockets to Brooklyn.
The physical examination was being conducted before the conclusion of the negotiation, according to the Pacers.
Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic reported the previous Saturday that “a problem was discovered” during LeVert’s physical examination and that the Pacers received an additional second-round draft selection and money to officially complete the switchover of four teams.
Pacers basketball operations president Kevin Pritchard also released a statement:
“We acquired Caris because of who he is when he was young in the first place. His skill in basketball and in the court game speaks for itself and we know that he has a great career ahead of us. We will support Caris in this period and we know that he will join us on the court as soon as he can. “
LeVert, 26, averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game for the Nets this season.
