Ozan Kabak got his first taste of Liverpool’s glory when he debuted in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over RB Leipzig. In an empty stadium, the event did not have the strident atmosphere of an adequate European night in Liverpool. However, Kabak will not mind. The young defender joined the team last month and was thrilled to win his first victory.
“It was very special for me because it was my first goal without conceding goals and my first victory with that shirt,” he told the official website.
“I am a new player, I am a young player and there are many stars here. I need some time to adjust here and in time I will improve I think. I think we played very well and gave everything on the field. We won all the challenges in the midfield and I think we deserved to win and I’m very happy.
“Leipzig is a very good team and is the runner-up in the Bundesliga, but I think we controlled the game very well. In the first half we had a lot of good opportunities and in the second half we scored because of their mistakes – but we already had everything under control.
“I think it was a really impressive game on our part.”
After a series of poor performances, this game felt like a breath of fresh air. And the trust couldn’t come fast enough. It’s Merseyside derby time this weekend. The last thing Liverpool want is to lose points against their Blue neighbors.
Clean wins and goals have been few and far between for Liverpool since Christmas, but I hope this victory will help usher in a happier spring.
