The OnePlus 8T was launched running Android 11 out of the box and, so far, it is the only OnePlus phone with the latest version of Android. While its predecessors eagerly await its turn, 8T continues to move forward with a series of incremental updates released in its relatively short lifespan. Now the latest version of OxygenOS is coming out, complete with a long list of network and system repairs.

For starters, OnePlus improved full-screen gestures and made the fingerprint reader a little faster to unlock the phone. In addition to the newly added option to adjust the height of the keyboard, the 8T also takes a small correction to the pre-installed Gallery app and improves night landscape photography. Engineers also appear to have corrected the problem with the drop in Wi-Fi connections, while improving overall network stability.

As for an exclusive resource in India, OnePlus Store will now function as a one-stop shop to access your Red Cable club membership and purchase OnePlus products. Although this addition sounds a bit like spam (and even reminds us of Samsung device ads promoting their own products), OnePlus says that you will have the option to completely uninstall it.

As always, OxygenOS 11.0.6.7 will be released initially for just a few users, and wider availability may take a few days. OnePlus notes that those in Europe will have to wait a little longer, as the launch covers only North America and India at the moment.

Bug update

Shortly after OnePlus released the latest version of OxygenOS for 8T, the original forum post was inundated with reports from users of broken audio and video playback capabilities. The problems appear to be affecting the entire device – for example, any media file played or streamed through apps like YouTube or WhatsApp suffers from severe stuttering. Some users have even faced general slowdowns and random freezes. Fortunately, many remained immune to all of these problems.

Thanks to a large community of users around the world, several quick fixes have been identified in no time, some of which seem a little peculiar, but have evidently fixed these bugs for many. The first involves recording a short video (say, about 10 seconds long) from the standard camera application and watching it in the Gallery. Even so, a restart could reverse the fix, in which case this second solution could come to the rescue. Disabling Google Assistant’s voice matching settings has proven successful for many, and is also unaffected by the device’s power cycles. Some have even managed to solve the problem by activating the battery saving mode and / or increasing the phone’s volume.

OnePlus seems to be aware of these problems and reportedly released a hotfix for all OxygenOS version 11.0.6.8 bugs. But you shouldn’t install the update yet, as several 8T owners who didn’t experience any problems with v11.0.6.7 now have it. If you have not yet installed any of these updates, then it may be best to stay away from them until OnePlus appears with an appropriate fix and statement about the whole situation. And those already in the latest build can try the workarounds mentioned to at least make their phone vaguely usable in the meantime.
