OVHcloud: firefighters return to a second incident at the Strasbourg data center

“Tonight at 6:50 pm, our teams at the scene identified smoke in a room with batteries disconnected from SBG1,” said an OVHcloud ad on Friday night.

“The firefighters were contacted immediately. In view of the situation, the management of OVHcloud decided to apply the precautionary principle: the power supply to SBG1 and SBG4 was cut off immediately ”, said the statement. “On-site operations were temporarily disrupted, all OVHcloud employees and all partner teams were asked to return to their homes, only security, fire protection and maintenance personnel remained on the premises.”

The source of the smoke was quickly identified and resolved. There were no injuries, although two security guards who were “bothered by the vapors” were examined.

The incident happened just when a video update from OVHcloud founder Octave Klaba was planned, with more details about the original fire.

Klaba tweeted a few more details, explaining that there was no real fire, but smoke: “The unused room with the unused batteries was in SBG1 in front of SBG2. The fire in SBG2 probably damaged the batteries, but the smoke started only 10 days ago. later. .

“Tomorrow we will start to remove everything that is not needed from the site.”

The OVHcloud statement concluded: “The situation is under control and we are adjusting the planning of operations for the next day.”
