Overwatch players ask that the DVa April Fool’s Day buff be permanent

The Overwatch April Fool’s Day patch once again won the hearts of the game’s players, but a novelty stole the show: D.Va’s mega Call Mech ult. Now, the fans want it to continue.

Whether zooming in on your MEKA or walking outside, people generally seem to love D.Va. During the April Fools’ Day patch, Blizzard’s developers simply increased that joy, making the transition from Baby D.Va (or “Zero Suit D.Va”, depending on who you ask) to MEKA form a delightful experience.

In the new silly patch, the devs gave buffs to each of the heroes in the game as well as the now beloved bulging eyes. Amid chaotic adventures, D.Va’s buff really stood out – the “Call Mech” dealt 50 damage on impact to… 600, enough to destroy a full HP Roadhog.

While many agree that the buff is very powerful, most seem to have fallen in love with it. After a flurry of unpleasant highlights, Overwatch fans are hoping that the change could become permanent, albeit possibly with a compromise of damage.

Mecha activated! from Overwatch

In a popular clip, you can notice ‘uwuokie’ sneaking around behind some enemies on a ladder like Baby D.Va, just to call your engine down and kill all three in an instant. This example, while exciting for D.Va fans, also shows why the skill can be implemented in a practical way.

With 150 life points, Baby D.Va is one of the weakest characters in the game. Sneaking up on a Moira and a Fist of Doom in an enclosed space is always a high-risk endeavor in Pilot mode, if not entirely suicidal. But, with this new buff, it is also a high reward.

To carry out the deaths of the Call Mech, you need to put yourself at risk by getting too close to the enemies and at the same time having very little health and the possibility of escape. Like Pharah’s Barrage, the lethality of the skill is balanced by a serious susceptibility to counterplay. Still, the damage of 600 can be overkill.

Overwatch D.Va 4k Experimental Return

In another clip, shared by ‘gramkrakerj’, they walk up to the enemies trapped in a teammate’s Graviton Surge and call on their MEKA to kill four – including a Reinhardt with Nano-Boost and a Winston. This is what we mean by “it may be overkill”.

Since a blow by Nano Reinhardt and a tickle from Winston’s Tesla Cannon could kill Baby D.Va right away, the counterattack ability is still there. But most agree that 600 damage, enough to kill such heavy tanks, is probably a lot. After Reddit’s responses suggested that they maintain capacity permanently, a commentator suggested that 150 damage could be a good compromise.

This may even be too much of a commitment, however. If you cut the damage in half to 300, then Baby D.Va could still effectively kill most DPS and support heroes by calling her MEKA. Given how risky the maneuver is to perform, this could be a fun change to become permanent – and, given the reactions of social media, fans of the game are totally in favor.
