MADISON, Wisconsin – The Overture Center has announced that Broadway shows will return to Madison with a season rescheduled for 2021-22.
Most of the 2020 programs that were originally canceled due to the pandemic were brought back for the next season, and “Hairspray” was also added. According to a press release, the final show of the season will be Lin Manuel Miranda’s acclaimed “Hamilton”.
“We have an incredible schedule and a lot to look forward to when we are able to bring tours back to Overture later this year,” said Tim Sauers, vice president of programming and community involvement.
The opening said “The Lion King” and “Oklahoma!” could not be rescheduled, but the theater hopes to add each show in a future season.
The 2021-22 season will include the following Broadway shows:
• “Fiddler on the Roof”, from 16 to 21 November
• “Mean Girls”, January 11-16, 2022 – premiere in Madison
• “Hairspray”, from February 22 to 27, 2022
• “The Prom,” March 22-27, 2022 – premieres in Madison
• “Dear Evan Hansen,” May 10-15, 2022 – Madison premiere
• “Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Tentations”, June 14-19, 2022 – premieres in Madison
• “Hamilton”, from 9 to 21 August 2022
Opening officials said “Come From Away” will also be presented from September 28 to October 3.
