Over 549 COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths, 31K vaccinations reported Friday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased 549 on Friday, with five more deaths and 31,411 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.

There are now about 14,586 active cases of the disease in Utah, according to the health department. The average number of positive cases per day for seven days is now 543, according to the health department. The rate of positive test per day for that period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 9.8%. The rate of positive test per day, the seven-day average calculated using the “test on test” method is now 4.6%.

There are 203 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 85 in intensive care, state data show. About 72% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including 74% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 55% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied, according to the health department.

816,934 vaccines have already been administered in the state, compared to 785,523 on Thursday. A total of 529,871 people received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 291,003 were fully vaccinated, according to data from the health department. One of the deaths reported on Friday occurred before February 12, but was still being investigated by state coroners, according to the health department.

Friday’s total gives Utah 373,868 confirmed cases, with 14,841 hospitalizations and 1,970 deaths from the disease. A total of 357,312 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, data from the health department show.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox provided an update on COVID-19 at a news conference on Thursday.
