Over 190,000 ceiling fans collected after blades fly

More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot are being collected after reports that the blades fell as they spun, hitting people and causing material damage

NEW YORK – More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot are being collected after reports that the blades fell as they spun, hitting people and causing material damage.

Hampton Bay Mara indoor and outdoor ceiling fans were sold this year between April and October at Home Depot stores and on its website. About 182,000 of them were sold in the United States and 8,800 were sold in Canada. They cost about $ 150.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said it had received 47 reports of blades falling, two reports of people being hit by them and four reports of blades causing material damage.

Fan owners should stop using them immediately and inspect whether the blades are not secure or if there is a space between them and the fan base, said the CPSC.

King of Fans, which manufactures ceiling fans, has posted a video on its website with instructions on how to inspect the fan. The company said it would replace any of the defective ceiling fans for free.
