Outlander was renewed for the 7th season, learned TVLine. The seventh season of the historical drama will consist of 12 episodes and will be based on the novel by author Diana Gabladon An echo in the bone.
“We’re so excited that Starz gave us the opportunity to continue the epic Outlander journey, ”showrunner Matt Roberts said in a statement. “We can’t wait to enter the writers’ room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and we’re looking forward to giving fans another season of this exciting story. “
Starz confirmed that series stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin will return for Season 7. The cast is currently filming Season 6 in Scotland. TVLine’s Scorecard has been updated to reflect the news.
12-year spoiler alert for the book: An echo in the bone chronicles the life of Bree and Roger after they (and their children) return to the 20th century, where they meet someone who has traveled back in time to that time. Back in ancient times, Claire, Jamie and Jamie’s now-grown son William are involved in the Revolutionary War. At least two established characters die, some new ones are introduced, someone is presumed dead and Lord John takes drastic measures to keep Claire safe, which creates a new set of problems.
