An outbreak of COVID-19 at a qualified nursing and rehabilitation clinic in Bangor is being investigated by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Eastside Health and Rehabilitation Center, which offers long- and short-term care, is the latest living environment to face an outbreak. Maine’s nursing homes and care facilities have seen some of the state’s worst outbreaks since the pandemic began.
On Saturday, the facility reported that 23 residents and 13 team members had tested positive for the virus. The information was passed on to residents’ relatives through a pre-recorded call, according to a relative of a resident who spoke to Bangor Daily News on condition of anonymity.
The investigation into the facility’s outbreak began on Monday, according to Maine CDC spokesman Robert Long, who did not have the most recent case count associated with the facility on Saturday.
A representative from the Eastside Health and Rehabilitation Center did not return the message left on Saturday.
The Bangor facility is affiliated with National Health Care Associates Inc., which operates seven other care facilities in Maine.
One of these facilities, the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation Center, was the site of one of the first outbreaks of COVID-19 at a long-term institution in the state. During the outbreak, which began in April, the unit recorded 48 cases among residents and 28 among employees. Seven residents died.
