OT Fagbenle defined as Barack Obama in Showtime’s ‘First Lady’

He will play alongside Viola Davis in the anthology which also stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson.

The Handmaid’s TaleOT Fagbenle will play the former president and star alongside Viola Davis in the anthology that focuses on the personal and political life of the country’s most enigmatic heroes.

The first season of the series centers on Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson), Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Michelle Obama (Davis).

Author Aaron Cooley (Four seats: a Supreme Court thriller) created the series and will write and produce executives alongside Davis and her husband / JuVee Productions partner Julius Tennon, Oscar winner Cathy Schulman and her Welle Entertainment banner (Beat), Jeff Gaspin (LA’s Finest) and Brad Kaplan of Link Entertainment (Mr. Church) The series is a co-production between Showtime and Lionsgate Television. Andrew Wang and Susanne Bier, the last of whom will direct, also executive producers.

Fagbenle’s credits include Hulu The Handmaid’s Tale and Disney’s next Marvel feature Black Widow, opening in theaters in May. Last year, he created, wrote, directed, composed, produced executives and starred in the British comedy Hulu Maxxx. He is represented by Buchwald and Hansen Jacobson.

He joins a cast that also includes Judy Greer as Nancy Howe, Eckhart as President Gerald Ford, Jayme Lawson as Young Michelle Obama, Kristine Forseth as Young Betty Ford and Rhys Wakefield as Former Vice President Dick Cheney.
